“ Where do I begin... I love food and go out to eat quite often but Cuban food is not the type of cuisine that I usually go out to have, mainly because my dad makes it at home; however from now on, when I'm craving Cuban food, this will be my go-to place. We had passed by El Tamalazo several times on our way to Everglades National Park and had decided that we would stop for lunch one day. On this gorgeous Sunday afternoon, we proceeded to make our way to Krome Avenue and visit this outdoor haven. When we drove in, we immediately loved the ambiance. There were many families with their children enjoying themselves. Even though the place was packed, I felt that there was enough space to feel safe. We found a great table under a gazebo that was perfect. In the back of the restaurant there is a gigantic field where they rent ponies and horses, delightful for a young family with children. I made my way to go order, there is a large barn like structure that has more picnic tables in an open area. On both sides of this structure there are bright colored fruits and vegetables for sale, I saw gorgeous avocados, bright red tomatoes, yellow bananas and so many more that I really wanted to buy them all! When I got to the front, I noticed that they sold locally sourced honey, peanut bars, fresh pork lard and fresh eggs. I am going back to buy some of these goodies since I just felt so overwhelmed with all the sights and festive sounds. When it was my time to order, I chose fried pork chunks, tamales, avocado salad, tostones rellenos and a guava and melon drink. Every single dish was cooked to perfection and delicious. I was telling my husband that this is the way that Cubans have been feasting in family gatherings for generations. Needless to say, we will be returning to El Tamalazo to enjoy more of their offerings with our extended family very soon! Pro tip: Although El Tamalazo is located on Krome Avenue, it is only a few minutes away from Kendall Drive making this location very accessible. ”
